A Family Trip to a Birthday Party Interrupted by a Violent Brandon Car Crash

A husband and wife were traveling with their children through afternoon rush-hour traffic on West Lumsden Road in Brandon, Florida. The husband was driving the family’s Ford Escape. His wife was seated beside him, and their children were properly secured in car seats in the back.

They were on their way to a birthday party.

As the family approached Heather Lakes Boulevard, a BMW traveling in the opposite direction attempted an improper U-turn. Instead of waiting for the roadway to clear, the BMW turned directly across the path of the Ford Escape.

The husband tried to avoid the collision, but the BMW entered his lane with too little time and distance remaining. The front of the family’s Ford Escape crashed into the passenger side of the BMW.

The impact caused severe front-end damage to the Escape. The damage was extensive enough that the family vehicle was ultimately declared a total loss.

The Husband Was Transported by Ambulance to the Emergency Center

Immediately after the crash, the husband experienced pain in his neck, left collarbone area, and lower back. Emergency medical personnel responded and transported him by ambulance to the emergency center at TGH Brandon Healthplex.

Doctors performed a series of diagnostic studies to evaluate his injuries and rule out fractures and other acute trauma. He was diagnosed with strains and sprains resulting from the collision.

The crash also left the husband separated from his wife and children while he was taken to the hospital. A Good Samaritan who had witnessed the collision stepped forward and drove the wife and children from the crash scene to the emergency center so the family could be reunited.

The wife and children were also evaluated at the hospital. They did not undergo diagnostic scans during that initial examination. The wife later obtained additional treatment from a chiropractor, while the children were examined by their pediatrician following the crash.

The Husband Had Injured His Neck and Back in an Earlier Accident
